DTC conquers MT APO

ahihi..

last October 27 - November 2, 2008, the SK Adventure across Land and Mountain (SALAM) [ambot tama ba ni nga acronym.. ahihi], some of the members of DTC joined their 4th Annual Clean Up Drive at the peak of Mt. Apo becuase of their invitation. This is their 4th clean up drive after their 3 successful clean up drive done in the said mountain. This project is thru the initiative of former SK federation president April Marie Dayap, other councilor of Davao City, Vice Mayor Inday Sarah Duterte and Mayor Duterte aiming to continue the passion of youth and children to clean our environment.

The trail is quite hard but the objective of the activity made us to continue the walk to the peak of Mt Apo.

DTC is challenged to continue this wonderful aim not to clean only the mountain peak but also to inspire other youth and children to take good care of our environment since our health, in general, needs a good air and venue for him/her to fully acquire an authentic development of one's physical and reproductive health lifestyle. PADAYON!

OCTOBER is CHILDREN's MONTH

Part of the annual celebration of Davao Teen Center through their existing networks like Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), the center joined the opening of the month's celebration for Children.

Last october 1, 2008, the center joined the opening salvo and motorcade of the city to celebrate the said celebration. It was participated by different offices and organization that have concern to the interest of the child.

Although, there are some happenings that are inevitable to the control of our center, what we observed is the motorcade part is not quite successful since not all offices who committed to join and even present in the first part of the program participated the second phase of such activity.

ahihi..

the reason why the center is so concern about it because we are the chairperson of the committee of participation of the council for the welfare of children hence, we are accountable to what will gonna happen on the activity.

but nevertheless, the thought that the activity accomplished its fact to conduct motorcade, the activity is successful. ahihi.. it is more safe than complaining and thinking of what had happened.

so we are expecting different activities "gimaw" this month of october.

Go Teeners!

DTC goes to Digos City for the Davao Del Sur TOT on PC

whew!

another task was given to our center. we were invited to facilitate the creation of pool of Peer Counselor in Davao del Sur. It was spearheaded by Commission on Population - Davao del Sur Province - Region XI. It was held at Arnaldos Hotel, Digos City last August 21-22, 2008.
It was also participated by 21 students of a secondary school of Davao Del Sur (sorry i forgot the name of the school, but i can edit this, just make a comment and put the whole name of the school in this blogspot. ahehehe) with their Guidance Counselor.
It is quite successful. Quite because there are some limitations that is very external for the center to control like the constriction in time and venue however, nevertheless, the output is superb as far as the activity is concern.
so we have a new batch of peer counselor in Davao del Sur province. What we are now anticipating is that they will be doing their job as peer counselor. There are many things that was thought to them and now that the activity is done, it is the trainee's task to perform what they are expected to do.

Go Go Ka-Peers!

DTC Summer Outing 2008 at Angels Hideaway

Part of an annual activity and summer closing salvo of Davao Teen Center is through dipping for the last time (last weekend of summer in reality), in beach. Last year, it was conducted in somewhere of Samal (i don't know exactly the name of the resort basta walking distance siya from the barge [is my spelling correct?] na nagyawyaw si Chad ug Jupanie kay dili jud daw siya walking distance). So 3rd world.. ahaha.. anyway, going back, this time, year 2008, the activity was conducted in Angels Hideaway of Matina Aplaya, Dumalag.

It was attended by some (since not all of them attended it compare to last year.) members of the center. More or less there are twenty people who visited but not all of them stayed in the said event.

Despite of these numbers, the quality and enjoyment are still the same with the previous outing.

The traditional "tubig-tubigay" was again played but we didnt finish it because of the lack of space so the body decided to play shagidi-shagidi. Unfortunately, it turned out with same output with the previous game so we finally resolved to play hep hep horray! ahaha..

Afterwhich, out of very creative mind of people, some of them shifted to play an impromptu and maximization play.

Anyway, i dont want to story the whole happenings of the said activity since these are the consequences of the people who were not able to attend. So we will be giving you the benefit of the doubt to think imaginatively what really transpired in the activity! BLEH!

Just a small preview, here are the pictures...

Mami, naunsa ka? namaligya og mangga? ahahah.. actually, they are posing as if they are model of the bayong.. ahahaha.. Tanawa si madam, murag dili pud siya prepared and gisundog jud niya ang trademark pose ni mami nga murag nanampiling.. ahahah..

Two are looking UP, while the remaining are trying to make their selves photogenic. CLEAVAGE ang labanan mi.. ahahaha..

Of course, overnight will not be called as such if there will be no sleeping moments. So here are some of the preview pictures of people trying to sleep despite of the external noises.. ahaha..

And the Blooper effect...

Pacute Moments by some of the People..

Kaon Effect also is the added value of all outing...

and lastly, beach outing cant be called as such, again, if there will be no pictures in the beach area.. YOOHOO..!
Well, that are the glimpse of our pictures in our outing. Hope to see everybody in the next years outing.! Ahehe..

And of course, we will not forget some of the quotable quotes like

"Ayaw kaayo..!"
"Precisely!"
"Your so Third World!"
"OMG, Nabuak nako ang Creamsilk ni eM-aR!"
"Hep! Hep! Horay!"
"Oi, Imong beinte, ayaw kalimti!"
"Ayaw Kong Magisip!"
"Wierd Kaayo noh.!"

Ahahaha..

Anyway and anyhow, We are all students again and we hope to continue our effort in serving our fellow young people. Just manage your time and everything will be okey.

Good Luck.!

P.S. For the pictures of the outing, just look at the right side of our blog and you will see the picture section, just click the appropriate site and link of your request. Take Care!

Davao Teen Center and WARAYA Youth Org meet at Catbalogan, Samar

Last May 22, 2008, the youth coordinator of DTC and FPOP Chapter Program Manager visited the FPOP Samar for an official trip of the chapter. In line with organizational strengthening, they both decided to visit them just to hear insights from their experience in the said city.

Remembering the history of DTC, WARAYA is one of the fruit of the center's initiative to empower the young people to be involve in the management of the FPOP at the same time incorporating young people perspective in its implementation of program.

We have talked on the members WARAYA like Ador, Dennis, Roldan, Steph, Leonor and other 3 members (I forgot their names, SORRY..:D). They just shared their thoughts that WARAYA is still in the right track. Despite of the low membership turn-out and less financial support from the funding agencies, which are very common in developing organization, continuous planning of activities is being practiced as part of their local implementation of plans and advocacy.

One distinguished asset of WARAYA is that one of their member is a very known personality of Catabalogan. Steph, which is a peer counselor of the organization, is a daughter of Mayor Tekwa. In addition to this, in her very young age, she became the youngest barangay captain of Catbalogan and also became the youngest ABC President of the said city. Thus, making her the youngest Councilor of the city. This seems very fortunate for WARAYA but then again, it becomes liability of others since young people in the other organization of Samar tend to conclude that she is using this opportunity and WARAYA is taking this advantages to cover WARAYA's expenses.

Despite all of these, WARAYA is still coping with some of the criticisms and continue giving their services to young people. In fact, one yearly activity that WARAYA conceptualized, which eventually they admitted that it is because of DTC's initiative, is the celebration of YOUNG PEOPLE's Day every month of August.

Upon hearing all these insights and thoughts, it just made us to realize that there are still more to do. It doesn't mean that we should not take our relaxation but to manage our time to fulfill the aspect of our social being. It quite hard to do this but eventually, seeing the smiles and hearing the thank yous of our fellow young people will make it more easier and self-fulfilling.

Thank you FPOP - Samar for your accommodation and double thank you for WARAYA's inspiring story.

International AIDS Candlelight Movement and Mobilization (IACLM)

It has been an annual international event when the world commemorates the victims of HIV and AIDS. Since 1983, when the first case of AIDS reported in the country, national and local initiatives were made just to stop the said virus. It is definitely deadly and very discreet in killing people in nature.

Since the discussion of sex was put in the closet by the people, person who lived with this virus cannot express that he/she has this kind of problem and possible spread it to other people because of vengeance and pity. (Not all People Living with HIV has this contention.) That is why, the cycle of this virus is rampant yet not visible to the eye of vulnerable people like young people and children.

In fact, there were report of 21 cases in Davao City as of the first quarter of this year. There are also 95% young people who knew AIDS BUT doesn't know the real cause, services and other correct and right related things about AIDS.

That is why, to commemorate the victims, the local government and non-government organization made an initiative, through Davao City AIDS Council (DCAC) to celebrate the second to the last sunday of the month of May as International AIDS Candle Light Movement and Mobilization (IACLM).

Davao Teen Center (DTC) consistently participated the said activity to join the call of stopping the virus and spreading the good news!

SO LET US START TO SPREAD THE NEWS and NOT THE VIRUS!

Pictures of the IACLM are available at our Pictures section. Go! Go! DTC!
